ISLAMABAD: A Taliban delegation met US special representative for Afghanistan Zalmay Khalilzad in Islamabad and agreed upon to continue contact in the future.
Citing official sources, the report said the meeting in Islamabad did not represent a resumption of formal negotiations between the US and the Taliban.
Mullah Abdul Ghani headed the Taliban 12-member Afghan delegation.
The meeting did not involve formal negotiations on the peace process but aimed at building confidence.
Sources said that the Taliban delegation pressured the US envoy for the evacuation of US and Nato forces from the Afghan soil.
The Taliban and the US envoy after talks took its high leadership into confidence over the talks.
The US embassy in Islamabad and the State Department in Washington declined to comment on whether there had been a meeting between the Taliban and Khalilzad.
