Alibaba’s Jack Ma to Star in Short Kung Fu Flick

Web Desk (October 31, 2017): Already showing himself a master of song and dance, Jack Ma is now looking to move into the realm of martial arts.

The 53-year-old Alibaba CEO will star in a short kung fu flick alongside martial arts legends Jet Li and Donnie Yen. Titled “Gong Shou Dao” (功守道), which roughly translates to “The Way of Act and Defense,” the 20-minute movie will be released online on November 11th, also known as Singles Day, the biggest shopping day in the universe.

On the last 11/11, Alibaba generated a mind-boggling $17.8 billion in sales, even after Katy Perry failed to show up to the company’s annual glitzy countdown gala.

Details of the movie are currently being kept under wraps. However, it will also feature Wolf Warriors star Wu Jing, Hong Kong martial arts actor Sammo Hung, professional boxer Zou Shiming, Thai action star Tony Jaa and retired Mongolian sumo champion Asashoryu Akinori.

Jet Li, the movie’s executive producer claims that the film will promote traditional Chinese culture — rather than frenzied online shopping. Alibaba has also said that the annual shopping extravagance will be used to draw attention to the movie and its messages, not the other way around.

Jack Ma has always shown a keen interest in traditional Chinese culture and, in particular, tai chi. Back in 2014, it was learned that his personal bodyguard is a master of tai chi. In the past, Ma has said that he has applied the principles of tai chi to his business approach, though we’re not convinced the discipline will work quite so well against Li or Yen.

Alibaba said that China’s richest man hopes to use this star-studded film to promote tai chi and finally live out his dream of being a tai chi master.
