All eyes on Panamagate verdict today

ISLAMABAD: All eyes are set on the Supreme Court as the apex court resolved to announce its verdict in the Panama papers case at 2 pm today.

The verdict was reserved by the Supreme Court on February 23 this year. The case was heard by a five member bench headed by Justice Asif Saeek Khosa.

Earlier, Interior Minister Chaudhary Nisar Ali Khan has directed the Islamabad administration for ensuring foolproof security of the Supreme Court and the adjoining areas by the Rangers today.

In a statement, he said only those persons will be allowed to enter the Supreme Court premises who have passes or security cards issued by Registrar of Supreme Court. He also directed Rangers to assist police in ensuring fool proof security.

Police has asked the relevant authorities of ruling PMLN and PTI to give the list of names of their leaders and workers who would come to hearing the verdict of the five-member larger bench of the Supreme Court in the case which has come to be known better as the Panamagate petition seeking disqualification of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif for corruption.

No political leader or worker will be allowed to get into the courtyard of the court without the pass, SP Security said adding that the leaders of Awami Muslim League and Jamaat-e-Islami will also be allowed to enter the court premises if they would have passes. It is proposed to issue up to 15 passes to  big political parties, he added.

Two-thousand policemen and Rangers personnel will be deputed at the Supreme Court and surroundings. The SP Security has asked the political parties not to bring their workers to the Supreme today.

Whereas, Major opposition parties summoned their meetings today to tone up their political strategies ahead of the Panama case verdict.
