Allama Iqbal’s 139th birth anniversary being celebrated today

SIALKOT: Poet of the East Dr Allama Muhammad Iqbal’s 139th birth anniversary is being celebrated today with traditional zeal and fervor across the country.

The Iqbal Day was started with special prayers in the mosques for the peace, national integrity, prosperity and development of the country. People recalled Iqbal’s efforts for Pakistan and Muslim Ummah.

A large number of people including the students visited the Iqbal Manzil where Kalaam-e-Iqbal and speeches were held. Allama Iqbal’s rare letters, books on Iqbaliyat, pictures of Allama Iqbal, his parents and family members were also displayed in Iqbal Manzil.

Dr Allama Iqbal was born on November 9th, 1877 in Sialkot. After completing MA philosophy from Government College Lahore, he affiliated with teaching. Iqbal left for Europe in 1905 and took law degree from Cambridge University and PhD from Munich University.

Allama Iqbal started poetry from early age and took guidance from Daagh Dehlvi. He wrote Shikwa, Jawab-e-Shikwa, Shama or Shair and Khizr-i-Rah and other marvelous poems in the decade of 1910.

British government honored Iqbal with the title of ‘Sir’  in 1922. Allama Iqbal outlined a vision of an independent state for the Muslims of India in his presidential address in Allahabad on 29th December 1930, during the 25th annual session of All-India Muslim League. Iqbal awoke the Muslims from deep sleep by his revolutionary poetry. He saw the dream of Pakistan and Quaid-e-Azam turned the dream into reality. He died on 21st April 1938 in Lahore. Iqbal is regarded as ‘Poet of the East’, Mufakkir-e-Pakistan and Hakeem-ul-Ummat by the nation.
