Ancient mosque discovered in Chunian Tehsil of Kasur

An ancient mosque dating back to hundreds of years was discovered during digging of mounds in Tehsil Chunian of Kasur district in Punjab.

Following the discovery of the mosque, people thronged the site to visit the ancient mosque.

The area people demanded of the government to reconstruct the mosque and preserve it.

Archaeologists says that the city might have been destroyed six time due to natural calamities.  The remains of the mosque include ancient but dilapidated structure of rooms and small backed bricks.

The Chunian is called land of Rajas and Maharajas. According to an account, the present name has been derived from ‘Chunni’, name of a daughter of Raja Todar Mal, the dewan or revenue minister to Mughal Emperor Akbar the Great.

Another account says that there had been one Raja Chunni La, who worked hard for the renovation and decoration of the area due to which the city was named after him.
