NEW YORK: António Guterres has taken charge as the Secretary General of the United Nations. He had taken the oath as ninth SG of the UN on December 12, 2016.
At the oath taking ceremony he had pledged to work for peace, development, and a reformed United Nations.
Mr. Guterres, a former Prime Minister of Portugal (1995 to 2002) and former UN High Commissioner for Refugees (2005-2015). He replaces Ban Ki-moon.
