ISLAMABAD: The process of appointment of a permanent Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the national flag carrier again hits snags, as the Board of Directors could not shortlist three qualified candidates to be sent to the Prime Minister for appointment of one of them as CEO.
Sources said that nine candidates were interviewed some nine days ago, who applied for the post of CEO Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) in response to advertisement in the media inviting applications for the vacancy.
The BoD conducted the interview and only two of the nine candidates were qualified as per the qualification criteria. The candidates included the interim CEO of the national flag carrier, who is a German national, a former MD and other officers.
As per the rules, the BoD is required to send the names of three shortlisted candidates to the Prime Minister to pick one of them for the post. The BoD could not shortlisted the mandatory three names so it could not forward the names of the PM, as only two of the nine candidates were fulfilling the qualification.
Sources sad that now the BoD instead of again carrying out of the exercise of the interview will get approval of one name from BoD and will send it the Prime Minister.
It is to be mentioned here that after killing of two PIA employees in a clash with Rangers during a protest against privatization of PIA at Karachi Airport in February, the then Chairman Nessar Jaffer had resigned and a German national Bernd Hildenbrand was appointed interim Chief Executive Officer of the national flag carrier.
