Cairo (December 07, 2017): The Arab League is to hold an emergency meeting on Saturday on Donald Trump’s move to recognize Jerusalem as the capital of Israel, the head of the Palestinian delegation to the body said on Wednesday.
The Palestinians and Jordan had requested the meeting which will take place at 3 p.m. (1300 GMT), Ambassador Diab al-Louh said.
Earlier, Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas has rejected Trump’s recognition of Jerusalem as the Israeli capital, citing that Jerusalem is eternal capital of Palestine.
Speaking in a televised address, Mahmoud Abbas has condemned Washington’s decision to recognize Jerusalem as Israel’s capital. He said it negates the US’ right to be a mediator in the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, while stating that Jerusalem remains the “eternal capital” of Palestine.
