Army Chief Strongly Condemns Kabul Blast

Rawalpindi (May 31, 2017):  Army Chief General Qamar Javed Bajwa has strongly condemned Kabul blast that claimed over 50 lives.

According to Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR), the COAS while condemning the blast said that Pakistan and its armed forces were with Afghan people and its security forces against terrorists and militants.

Earlier, Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has also strongly condemned the attack in Kabul. The prime minister expressed sympathies with the government and people of Afghanistan and prayed for the early recovery of the injured.

Foreign office of Pakistan condemn the blast and said in its statement that Pakistan is a victim of terrorism and thus it better understands the pain and agony that such incidents inflict upon the people and society.

Expressing sympathies with Afghan people, Pakistan said it firmly stands with Afghan brothers in this hour of grief and anguish.

The FO informed that the deadly blast today  has also caused damage to the residences of some Pakistani diplomats and staff, living in the close vicinity, and some of them were also slightly injured.

Earlier in the day,  about 80 people killed and more 300 injured in a powerful blast in the most secured and protected area of Afghan capital- the Diplomatic Enclave today.

The explosion took place at the peak of Kabul’s rush hour. The affected area is home to many embassies, diplomatic missions, the Presidential Palace and the Foreign Ministry.

According to foreign news agency the explosion was so powerful that it shattered the glasses of window of nearby buildings including the Indian embassy.

Foreign news agency reported that bodies littered the scene and a huge plume of smoke rose from the area which houses foreign embassies. However, it was not immediately clear what the target was.

Witnesses described dozens of cars choking the roads as wounded survivors and panicked schoolgirls sought safety, with men and woman struggling to get through security checkpoints to search for loved ones.

There was no immediate claim of responsibility, but the attack came as the resurgent Taliban are stepping up their annual “spring offensive”.

Blasts and explosions have become a routine in the Afghan capital in the recent months. On the 9th of this month a blast at a seminary in in Afghan province of Parwan killed seven people including Molvi Abdul Rahim Shah Hanafi, head of the Parian Ulema Council and eight students of the seminary.

In early march this year At least 38 people were killed and 70 others were injured in the attack on a military hospital in Kabul.

Four gunmen dresses as doctors stormed the Sardar Daud Khan hospital and opened indiscriminate firing on the people. The military hospital is situated near the United States’ embassy in Kabul’s diplomatic zone.

One of the attackers blew himself up at the main gate of the hospital and others were gunned down by the armed forces in a seven-hour long shootout.

All the four terrorists were killed in the encounter. Islamic State claimed the responsibility for the attack. Pakistan condemned the terrorists attack on the military hospital in Kabul.

The Islamic State group has also claimed responsibility for several recent bombings in the Afghan capital, including a powerful blast targeting an armoured NATO convoy that killed at least eight people and wounded 28 on May 3.
