Ashiana Case: Former DG LDA Sent On 14-Day Remand

Lahore (February 22, 2018): The accountability court in Lahore on Thursday sent former director General Lahore development authority Ahad Cheema on 14 days remand to NAB authorities in Ashiana Scheme Corruption Case.

The accused was brought in strict security in the accountability court. The prosecutor accused him during the proceedings that the former DG LDA had made assets of millions and his assets are beyond his known income sources.

He also accused Cheema of illegal use of his powers.

He asked for remand of the accused to further probe in the case. The court accepted the plea and sent Ahad Cheema on 14-days remand. The court also directed to present former DG on March 05.

On Wednesday, the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) arrested Lahore Development Authority (LDA) former director general Ahad Cheema in relation to the Ashiana Housing Scheme scandal.

The bureau has been conducting an inquiry against the officials of the Punjab Land Development Company (PLDC), Lahore Casa Developers, Lahore Development Authority and others, said a notification issued by NAB Lahore.

The aim of the Ashiana housing scheme – an initiative of the Punjab government, was to provide economical and adequate residential facilities to the people with low-incomes and the government had invested Rs2 billion while acquiring 672 canals of land in the Multani Harlan area near Darbar Baba Noor Shah.Earlier Ahad Cheema has appeared before NAB two times but he didn’t appear on the third call. Later NAB ordered to take action according to schedule 2 and he has been arrested from Punjab Power company office located at M.M Alam Road. He has been shifted to the NAB office.
