Huddle To Create Consensus on Delimitation Underway

Islamabad (November 15, 2017): Another parliamentary meeting being held in the chair of Speaker National Assembly Ayaz Sadiq to aimed to create consensus regarding new delimitation of constituencies according to the recently held census results.

The meeting is being attended by Attorney General Ashtra Ausaf, Law minister Zahid Hamid, minister for SAFRON Abdul Qadir Baloch minister for parliamentary affairs Sheikh Aftab,PTI’s Shah Mehmood Qureshi, Sheikh Rashid, Akram Durrani, Haji Ghulam Ahmed Balour, Mehmood Achakzai, Sahibzada Tariqullah, secretary law chairman NADRA, Secretary election commission and statistical bureau.

Meeting mulling over the new delimitation of constituencies. The bill regarding new constituencies has already been tabled in the national assembly.

Earlier, government had convened three meetings of parliamentary parties, however failed to create consensus in this regard.

After November 8 meeting with parliamentary leaders regarding delimitation, talking to media speaker Ayaz Sadiq said that the the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has made it clear that it will go to the Supreme Court for directions [if the parliament fails to decide on something]; but we hope that since this is in parliament’s domain, it should be the one to do it.

Answering a question from a reporter, the speaker said he was hopeful that elections would be held on time. He dismissed Opposition Leader Khursheed Shah suggestion that the election be held based on the previous census, since, he said, the law and the constitution did not allow for it.
