ISLAMABAD: An accountability Court on Monday indicted seven suspects including former law minister Babar Awan and former premier Raja Pervaiz Ashraf in Nandipur power project corruption case.
As per the details, AC Judge Mohammad Arshad Malik resumed hearing on reference filed on delay of the Nandipur project.
During the hearing, all suspects including Babar Awan and Raja Pervaiz Ashraf denied the charges imposed on them. To this, accountability court decided to summon witnesses and directed to initiate a trial upon al seven suspects on urgent basis.
It is pertinent to mention that Babar Awan has served as Adviser to Prime Minister Imran Khan on Parliamentary Affairs.
However, his period as an advisor was very brief courtesy to National Accountability Bureau who filed a corruption reference against him. The filed reference alleged Babar Awan for doing corruption in Nandipur power project.
Filed reference included other prominent faces of Pakistan’s politics such as former prime minister Raja Pervaiz Ashraf, Senior joint secretary Dr Riaz Mehmood and four others.
It is also to be noted that the delay in Nandipur power project had resulted in the loss of whooping Rs27 billion from the national exchequer.
