Sri Lanka Suffer Humiliating Defeat From Bangladesh

Dubai (September 15, 2018): Following the fighting inning by the Mushfiqur Rehman the Bangladeshi bowlers ripped through Lankan batting line-up and clinched the first victory for the team in Asia Cup opener at Dubai  International Cricket Stadium on Saturday.

No Sri Lankan batsman resisted the aggressive Bangladeshi bowling and six of them did not reach in double figure and all out at 124 short of 137.

In the chase of 262 Sri Lankan batting tumbled and first eight wickets fell just on 96.

Mashrafe Mortaza, Mustafizur Rehman and Mehidy Hassan Mirza captured two wickets each.

Earlier, Bangladesh star wicketkeeper-batsman Mushfiqur Rahim’s sixth One-day International century but most promising in the inaugural match of the Asia Cup 2018 against Sri Lanka has helped the team to post 262-run moderate total at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium on Saturday.

He came at the crease when Bangladesh lost two wickets in the very first over from Lasith Malinga and batted bravely to steer his team to a respectable total of 261.Mushfiqur brilliant innings came to an end in the final over when he was on 144 with the help of 11 fours and four mighty sixes.

The most successful in Lankan bowlers as he got four wickets in the expense of 23 runs while DM de Silva struck twice.

Earlier, the Asia Cup 2018 has been kicked off with the inaugural match between Bangladesh and Sri Lanka at Dubai International Stadium.

Bangladesh captain Mashrafe Mortaza won the toss and opted to bat first.

Afghanistan is the third team in Group B while Pakistan, India and qualifier Hong Kong form group A. The top two teams from each group will qualify for the Super Four round. Then the top teams in the Super Four will qualify for the September 28 final.Pakistan will play their first match, second of the tournament against Hong Kong in group A in Dubai on Sunday.

The Asia Cup is being considered by the teams as a key warmup event for next year´s ICC World Cup in England.
