Begum Raa’na Liaqat Ali’s 29th Death Anniversary Observed

KARACHI: The 29th death anniversary of Begum Raa’na Liaquat Ali Khan, founder of All Pakistan Women’s Association (APWA) and wife of the first prime minister of Pakistan, being observed today, Thursday.

She was appointed the Pakistani ambassador to the Netherlands in 1954 and also served in a similar capacity later in Italy and Tunisia. In 1973, she was appointed Governor of Sind, the first woman to hold that position in Pakistan’s history. She has been conferred the Nishan-e-Imtiaz by the Government of Pakistan. Rana Liaquat Ali Khan died on June 13, 1990 at Karachi.

She was conferred Nishan-e-Imtiaz, Grand Cross of Orange Nassau Women of the World, The President Della Republica Roma, Royal Tropical Institute, Award Siracusa, Italy and First International Gimbel Award. She was also given the UN Human Rights Award.
