ROME: Police gunned down Anis Amri, a suspect of Berlin truck attack in Milan on Friday.
Local media reported that Anis Amri shot and injured a policeman who asked for ID during a routine patrol in Sesto San Giovanni area of Milan in the wee hours of Friday. Anis Amri was killed after exchange of bullets with police, officials said.
‘Fingerprints they provided have confirmed the dead man is Amri,’ German authorities said.
On the other hand, Islamic State (IS) took the responsibility of Berlin attack and released a video showing Anis Amri pledged allegiance to IS.
German police said that Amri flew to Italy after attack on Christmas market in Berlin. 12 people had been killed and 48 others injured in the attack.
The police said that Amri came to Germany through Italy in 2015 and applied for asylum. His asylum plea was rejected and officials continued his monitoring.
