Washington (July 4, 2017): Police claimed to have killed an armed man over attempting to steal a helicopter at Hillsboro Airport in Oregon on Monday afternoon.

According to the details, a man was shot by police after trying to steal a helicopter at gunpoint outside a flight school at the Hillsboro Airport.

Hillsboro police spokesman Lt. Henry Reimann said that the armed man went up to a flight instructor and student in a helicopter outside Hillsboro Aero Academy around 11:40 am, pointed a gun and fired at least one round.

The instructor and student fled and the man went into the helicopter, Reimann added. He then fled, climbed a fence and ran across Northeast Cornell Road near the Comfort Inn.

A Hillsboro police officer encountered the man in a field and shot him, Reimann said. The armed man has not yet been identified.
