British Home Secretary Calls On FM Qureshi

Islamabad (September 17, 2018): Foreign Minister Makhdoom Shah Mahmood Qureshi on Monday has emphasized on expanding Pakistan-UK cooperation and translates the existing ties into a tangible and multi-faceted strategic partnership.  

He was talking to British Home Secretary Sajid Javed who called on him in Islamabad.

The two sides discussed various areas of regional and bilateral cooperation in particular regional security, counter-terrorism, organized crime, migration, human trafficking, and money laundering and asset recovery.

Shah Mahmood Qureshi appreciated UK’s contribution towards the development of socio-economic sectors in Pakistan.

The British Home Secretary conveyed his government’s desire to support and work closely with the new government in all areas of mutual interest.Earlier on September 15, Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi held one on one meeting with Afghan President Ashraf Ghani in Kabul.

They discussed bilateral relations as well as the issues pertaining to regional peace and security.

Meanwhile, delegation level talks have started between Pakistan and Afghanistan in Kabul in which the entire gamut of bilateral relations as well as matters pertaining to peace and security are being discussed.

Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi is leading the Pakistani delegation. Afghan President Ashraf Ghani is also present in the talks.Earlier, Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi who is on a day-long visit to Kabul held one on one meeting with Afghan President Ashraf Ghani and discussed bilateral relations as well as the issues pertaining to regional peace and security.

Qureshi accompanied by foreign secretary Tehmina Janjua and officials of foreign ministry arrived in Kabul on Saturday on a day-long visit and were warmly received by officials from Afghan foreign ministry.

It is his first foreign trip after holding charge as Foreign Minister of Pakistan.

Earlier, Foreign Office spokesperson Dr Muhammad Faisal said that the foreign minister’s first visit to Kabul underlines the importance government attaches to work closely with Afghanistan for regional peace and stability.
