WASHINGTON: British Prime Minister Theresa May called on United States President Donald Trump and congratulated him over assuming presidency.
Theresa May conveyed an invitation from Queen Elizabeth II for Trump to visit UK later this year, which he accepted.
US president Donald Trump threw his support behind Brexit and said,” you are going to be able to make free trade deals without having somebody watching you and what you are doing.” Trump declared Britain’s exit from the European Union as a ” wonderful thing.”
Theresa May said that she had secured an assurance of US support for NATO and made early progress on discussion about US-UK trade deal.
Calling May “Madam Prime Minister,” Trump said that the relationship between the two countries was a “force for peace,” adding that a free and independent Britain was a “blessing to the world.”
May vowed to continue economic sanctions on Russia in connection with its annexation on Crimea. While Trump said that they would work together with Russia to eliminate the Islamic State (IS).
