LAHORE: By-polls for NA-63 Jhelum and PP-232 Vehari will be held today and a close contest is expected between the candidates of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf in the elections.
According to the details, 11 candidates are participating in the by-elections for PP-232 Vehari. PML-N candidate Muhammad Yousaf Kaselia and PTI’s Aysha Nazir Jutt are the most powerful candidates of the constituency.
Some 191,092 registered voters will cast their votes at 365 polling booths of 157 polling stations. As many as 157 presiding officers, 365 assistant presiding officers and 365 polling officers will supervise the electoral process. Police declared 31 polling stations most sensitive and 48 sensitive. 1521 police personnel, 100 lady constables and 518 volunteers will perform security duty during the elections in the constituency.
A close contest is expected between PML-N candidate Nawabzada Matloob Mehdi and Chaudhry Fawad Hussain of PTI in the by-election for NA-63 Jhelum. The seat was declared vacant after the death of PML-N MNA Nawabzada Iqbal Mehdi.
As many as 427,757 registered voters will cast their vote at 976 polling booths (male 514, female 462) on 314 polling stations for NA-63 Jhelum. 39 polling stations were declared sensitive in the constituency. Army and police will perform security duty in the constituency.
