CAA clears one of 10 grounded PIA’s ATR aircraft for flight

KARACHI: Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) cleared one of the 10 ATR plane recently grounded for shakedown test following the PK-661 crash and other incidents involving the ATR aircraft.

Sources said that the plane cleared by CAA for flight operation will depart for Multan from Islamabad in the evening.

It is to be mentioned here that PIA grounded all the 10 ATR planes in its fleet after Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) decided to hold shakedown tests of the aircraft.

The national flag carrier had announced last Monday that all the 10 ATR aircraft would remained at ground till they are cleared after thorough examination by the regulator.

The grounding of the ATR aircraft has affected PIA’s flight operation to smaller airports like Gwadar, Turbat, Panjgur, Mohenjo Daro, Zhob, Bahawalpur, Dera Ghazi Khan, Chitral and Gilgit.

Last Sunday an ATR-42 flight of PIA grabbed headlines when its pilot aborted the take-off of the Multan-Karachi flight. Earlier on December 7, a PIA ATR aircraft went down near Havelian killing all 47 people on board including the renowned preacher Junaid Jamshed and six member of a single family from Chitral.
