Cardiac Ward Declared Sub-Jail After Nawaz Shifted To PIMS

Rawalpindi (July 30, 2018): The ward of PIMS hospital, where former Prime Minister is under treatment has been declared a sub-jail on Monday.

The Chief Commissioner Islamabad in this regard has issued a notification.

According to the notification, the private room of Cardiac Ward in PIMS will remain as sub-jail as long as Nawaz Sharif remains under treatment there. The security of the hospital has also been beefed up.

Earlier on yesterday, former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif was shifted from Adyala Jail to Islamabad’s Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) after developing serious cardiac complications.

Doctors conducted a check-up of the former premier after he complained of chest pain and advised that he be shifted to a coronary care unit (CCU) immediately, sources said.

Following this, the jail superintendent contacted the additional chief secretary. “In light of the additional chief secretary’s report, the caretaker government decided to shift Nawaz to PIMS,” sources in the Interior Ministry said.

“Nawaz’s electrocardiogram (ECG) was conducted and showed changes as per the medical report,” sources said.Earlier, doctors, who were holding medical checkup of ex-prime minister Nawaz Sharif, advised on Sunday to immediately shift him to intensive care unit (ICU) from Adyala Jail.

The medical board headed by Dr Ejaz Qadeer and comprising cardiologist Dr Naeem Malik, Medical Specialist Dr. Shaji Siddiqui, neurologist Dr Sohail Tanvir and Dr Mashood carried out medical checkup of the former PM after he complained about pain in his arm and heart.

Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) team said that Nawaz Sharif is unwell as he is suffering from heart disease, glyceride, cholesterol and diabetes.

Jail sources told that Nawaz’s ECG was not satisfactory.

On the other hand, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan prayed for Nawaz Sharif’s early recovery after he was shifted to a hospital for medical treatment.

Security Tightened 

Shortly after reports of Sharif’s transfer spread, workers of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) and the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) reached the medical facility and started chanting slogans in favour of and against the former premier, respectively.Soon afterwards, however, police was forced to intervene, break up the group of allies and protesters, and kicked out workers of both parties off of the hospital’s premises.

Further, the security inside and outside the PIMS hospital was tightened and 10 police officers, under the leadership of superintendent of police (SP) for prison department, were stationed to stay with Sharif.
