ISLAMABAD: The Public Accounts Committee of the National Assembly was told on Tuesday that cases of different ministries amounting to Rs400 billion were pending in the courts.
The PAC met here with its Chairman Khurshid Shah in the chair.
Auditor General of Pakistan (AG) revealed in the meeting that some 502 cases regarding the audit objections of last 13 years were pending in the courts, which amount for Rs400 billion.
He told the meeting that some 10 percent of the audit objections of the overall financial matters was reviewed. He said that if the whole matters were reviewed then the amount could be Rs4 trillion.
Secretary Law Karamatullah Niazi briefed the PAC regarding the pending cases of different ministers.
He said that the causes of delay in disposal of cases were non-pursuance, appointment of improper legal team, and lack of interests of the department heads in the cases.
Auditor General Ashtar Ausaf told the meeting that appointment of blue-eyed people in legal team was the biggest cause of delay in disposal of cases.
He said that reforms including filing early applications for vacating stay orders, compiling the details of cases and increasing the professional competence of the legal advisers were necessary. The AGP said that work has been started in this regard.
The committee directed the AGP to brief the committee by working out effective strategy and compiling details of the cases by January 30, 2016.
