CCTV Cameras’ Installation To Be Finalized Before July 21

Karachi(July 19, 2018): Installation of CCTV cameras and other arrangements would be finalized before 21st of this month at all polling stations in the province, said Chief Secretary Sindh Azam Suleman Khan.

Chairing a meeting in Karachi, he said mobile towers will be moved to the remote areas of the province to ensure uninterrupted mobile network services on the polling day.

The Chief Secretary directed all officers concerned to visit all polling stations well in time to sure availability of all missing facilities there.

Preparations For General Elections Are In Full Swing: ECP

All wings of the Election Commission of Pakistan are continuing preparations for the upcoming general election.This was briefed during a meeting of the ECP chaired by Chief Election Commissioner Sardar Muhammad Raza Khan in Islamabad on Wednesday.

It was informed that printing of ballot papers has entered the final phase; however, the process has been halted for eighty-five constituencies of national and provincial assemblies due to cases pending in various high courts.

The commission expressed its satisfaction over preparations made so far. Meanwhile, In Punjab, preparation is being finalized to hold forthcoming general elections in a fair and transparent manner.

Over 48000 polling stations have been setup across the province where over two lac police personnel and police volunteers will be deployed for security purposes.

Punjab has 60.67 million registered voters, out of which 33.68 million are male and 26.99 million are female.

Electioneering To End 48 Hours Before Polling Day: ECP

The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) on Monday said that election campaign of all political parties across the country would come to an end 48 hours before the polling day.

After the midnight of May 23 and 24 all public meetings and political campaign, including on electronic and print media, must come to a halt, the ECP said in a press release.The candidates violating deadline will have to face disqualification, two years imprisonment, fine up to Rs100,000 or withholding of their results by the returning officers (ROs), it added.

The commission urged the people, candidates and political parties to adhere to the law and make possible the holding of elections in a peaceful and tranquil atmosphere.

“A person if found canvassing for votes, solicits to vote of any elector, persuades any elector not to vote at the elections or for a particular candidate or exhibits, except with permission of ROs at a place reserved for the candidates or his election agent beyond the radius of one hundred yards of the polling station and notice sign banner or flag designed to encourage the electors to vote or discourage the electors from voting for any contesting candidate have to face the music.”The commission, however, said, “Such restriction will not be applicable to any talk show or other TV radio programmes, which are being attended by electoral experts, anchors, analysts, writers, journalists, observers or members from civil society organisations or any other persons who do not represent any political party or a candidates nor he is a contesting candidate.”

Similarly, it also advised the print media to avoid publishing advertisements or such written material for the purpose of the political campaign or which tends to malign or favour a particular political party or a candidate during the said period.
