Ceasefire in Syria from today

DAMASCUS: A Syrian ceasefire agreement which was signed by Russia, Turkey and Iran in Astana came into effect from Friday midnight.

A cease fire in four zones outlined in the Astana peace talks went into effect from today. The four security zones include Idlib province, Homs, Eastern Ghouta near Damascus and south of Syria.

The ceasefire will be for six months and could be automatically extended for another six months. Such zones, also referred to as non-conflict or safe zones, are meant to be areas where civilians can live without being targeted by any party in Syria’s war.

Whereas a Syrian opposition group had boycott the dialogues and demanded of the Assad’s regime to stop bombing on rebel held areas.

On the other hand, Russia said that US and ally forces plane will not be allowed to fly over de-escalation zones in Syria.
