Ch Nisar calls on PM, discusses ‘Dawn Leaks’ issue

Islamabad (May 5, 2017): Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan on Friday called on Prime Minister Nawaz Shairf at Prime Minister’s House, Islamabad.

According to sources, the Minister discussed Dawn Leaks report and government measures for improving overall security situation of the country with the Prime Minister.

They said that points of the Interior Ministry’s expected notification regarding the recommendations of the Dawn Leaks inquiry committee were also discussed.

Sources further added that the prime minister and interior minister also spoke of matters pertaining to security and governance.

Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif approved the recommendations of the Dawn Leaks Inquiry committee, ordering the withdrawal of Fatemi’s portfolio and taking action Rao Tehseen Ali, the principal information officer at the Information Ministry.

But hour later, Army rejected the notifications terming as incomplete, which led to a crisis like situation in the country.

The English-language daily, Dawn, had published the story on October 6, last year, in which journalist Cyril Almeida had written about an alleged civil-military rift during a National Security Committee (NSC) meeting over the issue of tackling jihadi outfits.

The story stirred a major controversy last year, resulting in resignation of Information Minister Pervaiz Rasheed and Almeida coming under fire.

An inquiry committee was formed comprising one member each from the ISI, MI and IB, Secretary Establishment, Tahir Shahbaz, Ombudsman Punjab Najam Saeed, and an FIA director.
