Ch Sugar Mills Case: LHC Reserves Judgement In Maryam Nawaz Bail Petition

LAHORE: The Lahore High Court (LHC) has reserved judgement in the hearing of the bail petition of Maryam Nawaz in the Chaudhry Sugar Mills case.

The LHC divisional bench headed by Justice Ali Baqar Najfi resumed the hearing today of the bail petition filed by Maryam Nawaz in the Chaudhry sugar mills case.

The additional prosecutor general NAB Jehanzaib Bharwana opposing the bail of Maryam Nawaz on human grounds said that the Chairman NAB issued arrest warrant of her as per the law.

The prosecutor contended that Maryam Nawaz played a vital role in running the fake accounts of the Chauhdry Sugar Mill case while the NAB did’t cross its limits adding that it has complete right to probe money laundering besides the SECP has limited jurisdiction in the matter.

In his arguments, the NAB counsel presenting doubtful transactions of Habib Bank informed the court that Nasir Abdullah Lotha is also an approver in the omni group case that shares of the Chaudhry Sugar mills case was transferred on the name of Nasir Lotha for the period of one year while the Nasir Lotha transferred the same shares on the name of Hussain Nawaz.

On the court question, the NAB prosecutor informed that Maryam Nawaz has committed a crime of money laundering while the petition is not maintainable on basis of human grounds.

The NAB consel Jehanzaib Bharwana also opposed her release being as a woman citing the case of Faryal Talpur.

Later, the court has reserved the judgment which will be announced tomorrow.
