ISLAMABAD: A session of the Senate summoned on the request of the opposition parties to present a no-confidence move against the Chairman of the house was adjourned till an indefinite time after few minutes, AbbTakk News reported on Tuesday.
According to details, a session of the Senate was chaired by the Chairman of the upper house Muhammad Sadiq Sanjrani.
As the session went underway, opposition leader of the house Raja Zafar-ul-Haq presented a motion to have a debate about the possible removal of the Senate Chairman. However, the Senate Chairman decided not to proceed on a no-confidence motion but given the permission to have a debate over it under article 218 of the house’s rules.
He asked the Senate Chairman that a session has been summoned by the president to proceed on a no-confidence motion of the opposition against the senate chairman on August 1. He also asked to adjourn the session of the house till an indefinite period.
On the other hand, the leader of the house Shibli Faraz endorsed the demand of the opposition leader. To which, Chairman Senate in his ruling stated that the defamatory campaign against me is damaging the reputation of one of the important pillars of state as he worked as a representative of the state, not of a province and a notice to remove Senate Chairman or Deputy Chairman can only be given in a session of the upper house.
Later on, the Senate Chairman adjourned the session till an indefinite period.
