Islamabad: Chairman Senate Sadiq Sanjrani has supported holding of senate elections through an open ballot.
After Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) Chairman Senate also gave his nod of holding senate elections through an open ballot as Chairman Senate presented his written statement in the Supreme Court of Pakistan.
Chairman Senate said that the constitution is quite regarding holding of the upper house elections adding that interpretation of the constitution is the duty of the SC.
He said that all the stake holders believe that senate election should be held in a transparent way. He said that if someone wanted to give his votes against the party decision then he should showing courage admit it and face the consequences.
Chairman Senate said that a discussion was also held in 2015 for rigging and sale and purchase of votes in the senate elections, a senate committee was established over the sale and purchase of votes in the Senate
Elections. While recommendations of the committee has been submitted with the presidential reference. He said that it is also duty of the Election Commission of Pakistan to hold transparent elections.
It is pertinent to mention here that on January 4, Supreme Court has asked inputs of all four provincial
governments, speaker of national and provincial assemblies and Chairman senate over holding Senate elections through an open ballot.
