Chaudhary Brothers Appear Before NAB Lahore

Lahore (November 6, 2017): Pakistan Muslim League (Quaid) leaders Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain and Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi appeared before the Lahore office of National Accountability Bureau (NAB) today.

It may be mentioned here that after Nawaz Sharif, the NAB has expedited the investigations against other political leaders and issuing summons to chief of Pakistan Muslim League (Q) Chaudhary Shujaat Hussain and former chief minister Punjab Pervez Illahi is a work of a NAB gone pro-active.

It may be clarified here Chaudhary Brothers had decided to appear before NAB Lahore in person.

According to NAB sources NAB had received complaints against the Brothers on January 4 this year. The complaints had demanded NAB to probe the corruption committed on April 4, 2000. However, NAB had to close the file due to political pressure and also because Shujaat and Pervez Illahi were in power at federal and provincial level.

However, the old cases against the Brothers were reopened on the order of recently installed Chairman NAB Justice (r) Javed Iqbal.

NAB sources also informed that NAB Lahore has also summoned both the sons- Hasnain Dar and Ali Dar- of federal Finance Minister Ishaq Dar as well as PTI leader Aleem Khan to its office today.

The Chaudhry cousins from Gujrat are facing charges of allegedly owning assets that are disproportionate to their known sources of income for which they could not reasonably account for.

The Chaudhry cousins have decided to appear before NAB Lahore today, and have reiterated that they will give proof of their innocence to the authorities.Shujaat has briefly remained prime minister of Pakistan in 2004 while his cousin, Elahi, was chief minister of Punjab from 2002 to 2007.

Before joining Gen (r) Musharraf’s government, they were associated with the PML-Nawaz.

Dar is facing a NAB reference, which alleges that “the accused has acquired assets and pecuniary interests/resources in his own name and / or in the name of his dependents of an approximate amount of about Rs 831.678 million.”

The reference also alleged that the finance minister’s assets were also ‘disproportionate to his known sources of income.
