CIA appoints hardliner chief to run Iran operations

Washington (June 03, 2017): The United States Intelligence Agency has appointed Michael D’Andrea, a hardliner chief to run its Iran operations.

Michael D’Andrea had been the head of its lethal drone program and hunt for Osama Bin Laden operation, US media reported. It is the first major sign that the Trump administration is invoking the hard line the president took against Iran during his campaign.

D’Andrea is reportedly a convert to Islam, known by the nicknames “Dark Prince” and “Ayatollah Mike” from his time as a CIA officer overseeing the hunt for Osama bin Laden and U.S. drone-strike campaigns that killed thousands of militants and civilians.

Trump had called Iran “the number one terror state” and pledged throughout the campaign to dismantle or revise the landmark deal between Iran and six world powers in which Tehran agreed to limit its nuclear program in exchange for sanctions relief.
