ISLAMABAD: The Council of Islamic Ideology (CII) on Friday opposed child marriages.   

According to tom details, the Council of Islamic Ideology (CII) has issued its narrative over the child marriage prohibition bill passed by the Senate and National Assembly.

The CII research department today presented a 10-page “comprehensive report”. The report also mentioned details of age limits set for marriage by 12 Muslim countries.

CIl’s supreme body agreed that child marriage leads to various negative consequences and problems and that the practice should not be encouraged.

CCI research department director Dr Ikramullah has urged the government to carry out steps for end of these symptoms due to which some families in Pakistan are forced to marry off children at a young age”.

The bill was presented in the National Assembly by PTI minority member Ramesh Kumar, a day after the Senate approved it with a majority vote. According to the amendment, marriage under 18 years can lead to a fine of Rs100,000 and three years of rigorous punishment or both.
