Web Desk(April 25, 2018): Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Justice Mian Saqib Nisar has established two branches of Human Rights Cells at Branch Registries of the apex court at Karachi and Lahore.
The step has been taken to ensure better access to justice for deprived, destitute and vulnerable segments of society as enshrined in 1973 constitution.
The apex court has also established a minority wing at Human Rights Directorate in Islamabad to safeguard the rights of the minorities and to promote and protect such rights as required by the constitution and international instruments.
In addition, the human rights cell of the Supreme Court has been upgraded as Directorate of Human Rights. The same will help in the better handling of the applications on Human Rights issues, which in last few months, have increased five times.
