CJP Questions Progress of FBR In Offshore Properties Case

ISLAMABAD: Chief Justice of Pakistan expressed unsatisfaction on the progress of the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) for their probe in the case of properties owned by Pakistanis on offshore lands.

A three-judge bench headed by Chief Justice of Pakistan Mian Saqib heard a case pertaining to offshore companies owned by Pakistanis.

According to details, Prime Minister Imran Khan’s sister Aleema Khan, DG FIA Bashir Memon and a member of FBR appeared before the Supreme Court of Pakistan today.

During the hearing, the top court was informed by the FBR that more than 277 Million rupees were recovered out of the estimated total amount of 796 Million rupees. FBR told that 316 people attained amnesty.

The representative of the FBR revealed that Premier Imran Khan’s sister Aleema Khan was the only one who showed her property in the Amnesty, whereas other pertaining people in the case failed to comply.

The representative of the FBR added that the probe into the matter is becoming complex as most of the Pakistani citizens were abroad, hence, the board faced difficulty in recovery of the money.

To this, Chief Justice got annoyed and remarked, “Why did you not take action against such individuals earlier? Were you waiting for the Supreme Court to wake you up and enlighten you with the scenario?”

He also acknowledged the progress of the team of Federal Investigation Agency (FIA). DG FIA told the court that the team was putting in their full work to unearth properties of Pakistanis that are offshore.

Later, the court adjourned the hearing of the case and demanded the agency to update the court over the progressive report after one month.
