Firing Incidents At SC Judge Residence In Lahore

Islamabad (April 15, 2018): Chief Justice of Pakistan Justice Saqib Nisar On Sunday summoned the IGP Punjab Capt (retd) Arif Nawaz Khan over the two firing incidents at the residence of the Supreme Court of Pakistan judge Justice Ijaz Ul Ahsan in Model Town area of Lahore.

According to a statement issued from the apex court, two incidents of the firing were reported at the residence of Justice Ijazul Ahsan in Lahore who is currently residing at the Judges Colony in Islamabad.

The first incident was reported on late Saturday night while the other incident was reported on Sunday morning when unknown men opened fire at the residence of the the Supreme Court judge.

Forensic experts visited the residence twice and gathered evidence, including CCTV footage of the security camera installed there.

Sources said that the bullets fired at the residence hit the main door and the kitchen window and were fired from a 9-MM pistol.    The Chief justice took notice of the incident and reached at the residence of Ijaz ul Ahsan in Islamabad. He later met with the judge and reviewed the entire situation.

The Chief Justice also summoned the Inspector General Punjab at the residence of the judge to furnish report on the incident.

It is pertinent to mention here that Justice Ahsan is part of key cases heard or being heard in the apex court against the Sharif familiy and his associates is also the monitoring judge of the ongoing corruption cases against former prime minister Nawaz Sharif.

He was part of the five-member bench that heard the high-profile Panamagate case last year that led to the disqualification of Nawaz Sharif, the then prime minister.He was also part of the three-member bench hearing 17 petitions against the controversial Elections Act 2017. The bench had ruled that an individual disqualified under Articles 62 and 63 of the Constitution cannot serve as head of a political party, leading to Nawaz Sharif losing his position as the chief of PML-N.

Meanwhile, the police has beefed up the security of the Judges Colony in Islamabad to avoid any untoward incident. The Chief Justice Saqib Nisar has also cancelled his plans to visit Peshawar today.

Moreover, Punjab Chief Minister Shehbaz Sharif has taken notice of the incident and directed the Punjab inspector general to submit a report into the incident and bring the culprits to book.
