NICOP Case: CJP Summons Interior Minister On Mar 26 

Islamabad (March 19, 2018): The Supreme Court of Pakistan on Thursday adjourned the hearing into national identity card case of Pakistanis living abroad after it was informed that the interior minister was in Gwadar and would return from here in two days. 

On Monday morning, the Supreme Court of Pakistan  summoned the Interior Minister Ahsan Iqbal in the apex court within an hour.

The chief justice of Pakistan Justice Saqib Nisar summoned the interior minister in a case pertaining to the national identity cards of Pakistanis living abroad.

The CJP also summoned the interior secretary in the case.

The NADRA Chief informed that he was not aware of lowering of the fees of the NICOP for the Pakistanis and the government had withdrew the summary for less fees.

The CJP asked as to why the interior ministry withdrew the notification to lower the fees and summoned both minister and secretary to submit their replies in person before the court.

Resuming the court proceedings after an hour, the court was informed by NADRA Chairman that the interior minister was in Gwadar for official visit and would return in two days.

The CJP remarked that if the government is not wiling to see this matter then the court could form a commission to review the fees.

The court later adjourned the hearing till next Monday and summoned the interior minister and secretary.
