ISLAMABAD: Chief Justice of Pakistan Justice Saqib Nisar on Wednesday took suo motu notice of sale of substandard edible oil at Utility Stores Corporation (USC) stores.
This is the first suo motu notice taken by Justice Saqib Nisar after taking over as Chief Justice of Pakistan.
The notice was taken on the application of President Anjuman-e-Tajiran Mirpur Azad Kashmir.
Converting the application into a suo motu case under Article 184 (3) of the Constitution, the Chief Justice issued notices to Secretary Ministry of Industries and Production and Managing Director USC.
The applicant has stated in the his application that substandard edible oil was being sold at USC outlets across Pakistan. He further said that a report of National Institute of Health had confirmed oil being sold at USC outlets was substandard.
He pleaded the Chief Justice to take notice of the situation and issued necessary instructions to the concerned authorities.
