CJP Visits Punjab Institute of Mental Health

Lahore(April 28, 2018):  Chief Justice of Pakistan, Mian Saqib Nisar visited Punjab Institute of Mental Health and met with patients on Saturday.

During the visit, CJP inspected health facilities in different wards including emergency and discussed the problems of the patients. He also barred everyone from calling the hospital as mental asylum.

The emergency incharge briefed the CJP about the facilities after which, the top judge assured the patients to not get worried about anything.

A woman present at the psychiatric hospital told the chief justice there was also a shortage of medicines at the facility. Over this, an explanation was sought from Punjab Health Minister Khawaja Salman Rafique.The chief justice also surveyed pharmacy of the hospitals where he sought details from the incharge.

At one of the wards, a doctor met the chief justice to tell him about her son who was missing for the past eight years. She told him her son was missing since a long time and the police was not cooperating with her to find him. The chief justice took notice of the matter and issued directives for action.

The chief justice was scheduled to go to Services Hospital and then to Supreme Court’s Lahore registry to hear cases.During the visit of CJP, the contractual employees of Servies Hospital staged protest outside the mental hospital, later on CJP took suomotice notice of their protest.

On April, 26, during the hearing, CJP announced that the loans which were written-off on the political basis, would be recovered at any cost.

Hearing the loan write-off case at the apex court, the top judge declared that the assets of the individuals who failed to pay back loans would be sold off for recovering the money and depositing it in the national kitty.CJP Nisar inquired about the total amount which was not paid back to which the counsel for the private bank replied that Rs 54 billion was written off.

Barrister Zafarullah apprised the bench that Benazir Bhutto, Nawaz Sharif, Yousaf Raza Gillani, Chaudhry brothers and Muhammad Khan Junejo were among the defaulters.
