Coal Mine: 3 Miners Killed, Efforts on to Rescue 5 Others

Harnai, Balochistan (October 20, 2017): Three miners died while works to rescue another five miners are underway after a rock fell at two different sites in a coal mine in Shahrug area of district Harnai of Balochistan province.

The bodies of the dead miners have been pulled out of the debris as hectic efforts to pull the remaining five miners still buried under the debris are underway.

Rescue workers and district administration officials are taking part in the operation.

Coal mines seems to have become routine death traps in Harnai, Sowrange, Dukki, Mach and other parts of Balochistan due primarily to poor working conditions.

It may be mentioned here that about 40 days ago three coal miners died from suffocation due to the presence of poisonous gas inside a coal mine here.

The three miners were extracting coal from a mine thousands of feet deep when poisonous gas filled the space killing all of them.

Just four days earlier four coal miners were killed in a similar incident in Sanjadi area of provincial capital Quetta. Two other miners had fallen unconscious when the Sanjdi coal mine in suburbs of Quetta was filled with poisonous gas.

The miners were working thousands of feet deep inside the mine when suddenly the poisonous gas filled the space.
