COAS Calls Military Leadership Of Azerbaijan In His Two Day Visit

BAKU:Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Qamar Javed Bajwa met senior military leaders of the Republic of Azerbaijan during the two-day official visit to the country.

The COAS called on Minister of Internal Affairs of Azerbaijan His Excellency Colonel General Eyvazov Vilayat Suleyman Oglu, Chief of State Border Service (SBS) of Azerbaijan His Excellency Colonel General Elchin Guliyev, and Chief of State Security Service His Excellency Colonel General Ali Naghi Oglu Naghiyev at Baku, the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) said in a statement on Wednesday.

During the meeting, matters of mutual interest, bilateral defence and security cooperation, regional peace and stability and cooperation in energy, trade and connectivity projects between both brotherly countries were discussed.

The army chief said that, “The emerging geo-strategic paradigm in the region necessitates our close cooperation and collective response against common challenges.”

The COAS also reiterated increased mutually beneficial engagements at all levels and forums.
The dignitaries also acknowledged high standards of professionalism of the Pakistan Army and contributions for conflict prevention in the region, especially efforts for bringing peace in Afghanistan.

On June 21, COAS Gen Bajwa on Monday met Azerbaijan President Ilham Aliyev and Defence Minister Colonel General Hasanov Zakir Asgar in Baku, the military said.

Gen Qamar, who is on a two-day official visit to Azerbaijan, discussed matters of mutual interest, regional security situation including recent developments in Afghan peace process and bilateral defence and security cooperation in various fields during the meetings, said the ISPR.

Pakistan and Azerbaijan share common values based on rich cultural, religious and historical affinities and have tremendous geo-strategic significance and potential for mutually beneficial and enhanced cooperation at all forums, the military’s media wing quoted the army chief as saying.

He also expressed Pakistan Army’s desire to further enhance bilateral military cooperation and regional partnership between the two countries.
