Islamabad (August 23, 2017): Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has issued notice to federal Minister for Commerce and Textiles Pervez Malik for violating code of electoral conduct pertaining to by-election in NA-120.

According to the details, the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) issued on Wednesday a notice to Federal Commerce Minister Muhammad Pervaiz Malik for violation of rules and regulations in the NA-120 by-poll.

Acting on the request of Pakistan Peoples’ Party candidate in the constituency, Faisal Mir, Malik has been sent a notice for running the electoral campaign of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz candidate Begum Kulsoom Nawaz.

The petitioner alleged that Malik along with the local provincial and national legislators is spending government funds in the election campaign.

The ECP has directed Pervez Malik to submit his reply within three days.Under ECP’s code of electoral conduct a member of parliament could not visit the constituency after the schedule of by-election, Faisal says.

It may be mentioned here that on August 21, the ECP had taken notice of use of developments funds allocated for Chief Minister House and the province in the campaign for by-election of PML-N candidate from NA-120 Kulsoom Nawaz.

Meanwhile, the Lahore High Court Appellate Tribunal has rejected all appeals filed against the nomination papers of Kulsoom Nawaz for the by-poll.

The by-election is scheduled on September 18.

The parliamentary seat had fallen vacant after Nawaz Sharif was disqualified under Article 62 of the Constitution in the Panama Papers case by the Supreme Court on July 28.

Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf, Pakistan Awami Tehreek and Pakistan Peoples’ Party challenged the candidacy of Begum Nawaz’s nomination papers on the grounds that she did not disclose her financial assets, including details of her Iqama (UAE work permit).
