Coffins at Count Dracula’s castle to get stuffed on Oct 31

ROMANIA: The two velvet-lined coffins at infamous Count Dracula castle located in Carpathian mountains here will be filled in by two persons on the 31st of this month. The two brave, or adventurous, Halloween night guests will spend the night completely alone and in seclusion.

They first ever overnight guests since the country’s post World War II communist regime threw the Habsburg royal family, the owners, out some 70 years ago.

The arranged coffin-sleep-in is made possible by a company which launched a promotional contest yesterday to pick the first ever guests of the infamous castle after almost 70 years.

In 2006, the government restored the 14th century Bran fortress better known as “Dracula’s Castle” to Habsburg descendents. Bran Castle is where the legend of Dracula was born.

Though the castle has never been a part of Bram Stoker’s world famous novel “Dracula” it has been made famous by Romania’s notorious 15th century ruler Vlad Tepes (Vlad the Impaler), whose life inspired the book, may have set foot there briefly.

Though Vlad was notorious for his cruelty that included impaling Turks and thieves on wooden stakes he was no vampire. In addition, vampires are not part of Romanian superstition, which includes the belief that garlic wards off evil.
