Confusion Persists Regarding NAB’s Notices to Nawaz, Sons

Islamabad (August 18, 2017): Amid conflicting statements by Pakistan Muslim League- Nawaz (PML-N) spokesperson and National Accountability Bureau about notices to ousted Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and his sons, it is not clear that either the Sharif’s family will appear before the investigators or not.

According to the details, The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) summoned disqualified prime minister Nawaz Sharif and both his sons in the Al-Azizia Steel Mills case today.

NAB officials confirmed that Sharif and his sons — Hussain and Hasan Nawaz — had been asked to appear before investigators in Lahore.

Sources said the case had been referred to the Rawalpindi NAB on Aug 11 and the decision to summon the Sharifs was taken by NAB chairman Qamar Zaman Chaudhry.

On the other hand, PML-N Leader and Senator Asif Kirmani turned down news regarding NAB notice to Sharif family for August 18 and said statement attached to him was incorrect.

In his recent statement, he clarified that Nawaz Sharif and his sons have not received any summon from National Accountability Bureau (NAB) and news in this regard were baseless. “Nawaz Sharif and his sons will not appear before NAB as they did not receive summon in this regard,” he clarified.

On Wednesday news was aired on almost all TV channels that the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) has finally issued summon to Nawaz Sharif and his sons in corruption charges. As per the supreme Court orders on July 28, the summon is issued for August 18.

Sources told that NAB has started preparation of four references against Sharif family over corruption charges, leveled in Joint Investigation Team (JIT) report. Before filing reference against Sharif family NAB will record the statements of the former PM Nawaz Sharif and his family to make them part of the reference. NAB has been tasked with filing four references against the Sharif family, Ishaq Dar and Captain Safdar by September 8.
