Conservative Party Takes Lead in UK Elections

Washington (June 9, 2017): British Prime Minister Theresa May’s Conservative Party takes lead in general elections 2017, sources said.

Voting in the UK general elections is under way at more than 40,000 polling stations. About 46.9 million people in UK will cast their votes to elect 650 Westminster MPs. Polling started at 7 am and will continue by 10 pm today.

Police have increased security at polling stations, including patrols by armed officers in some areas, following the recent terror attacks.

Most of the results likely to be declared by midnight, with final results expected on Friday after noon.

At the start of the election the Tories were predicted to get a whopping 50 per cent of the vote, which would give them a majority bigger that Tony Blair’s in 1997.
