Constitution Prohibits from Criticizing Institutions: Qureshi

Islamabad (August 05, 2017): Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf Vice President Shah Mehmood Qureshi on Saturday said the constitution prohibits people from criticising members of the judiciary and the armed forces.

Speaking to journalists, he said any individual who criticises the armed forces and judiciary of the country must review their action and words.

The PTI leader also referred to the Supreme Court’s decision on the Panama case ‘historic’.“Every political party supports democracy in the country and accountability will further strengthen it,” said the PTI leader.

“The country will emerge stronger after getting rid of corrupt elements.”

Qureshi further said that he had predicted that an interim premier will not appoint a 47-member cabinet, unless the prime minister will stay till the next general elections. He also said that Shahbaz Sharif was not nominated for the prime minister`s position because of NAB references against him and, with him becoming prime minister, a race would have started within the party for the position of chief minister Punjab.

Shah Mehmood Qureshi said that a prime minister staying for only 45 days does not form a 47-member cabinet. He predicted that Shahid Khaqan Abbasi will remain prime minister till completion of the government’s tenure.

Speaking on the political situation in Punjab, he claimed the ruling PML-N had no strong candidate for Punjab chief minister’s post and they were planning to give the seat to Shahbaz Sharif’s son Hamza Shahbaz but Nawaz’s camp was not satisfied with the decision. On the other hand, PML-N officials say the main reason why Shahbaz may not take over is linked to the 2018 general elections and the party s fears that its grip on the vital Punjab province will weaken if he steps down as chief minister.

The way Pakistan’s political system is set up means any party that sweeps Punjab, which houses more than half of Pakistan s 190 million people, will most likely go on to form a government after the general elections in mid-2018.

Shahbaz has served as chief of Punjab since 2008, delivering big wins for PML-N and forging a reputation as a competent administrator whose workaholic habits have contributed to timely completion of infrastructure mega projects popular with voters.
