Contenders Rush To ECP Offices To Get Nomination Papers  

Islamabad (June 04, 2018): Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) on Monday has started to accept nomination papers from the candidates for general elections 2018.

The obtaining of nomination paper for the election 2018 has accelerated as the contenders of various political parties rushed to the election offices in order to get the nomination papers across the country.

Islamabad: NA-53: The Asmat Raza of Awami Workers party and president of traders organization Ajmal Baloch got nomination paper.

NA-54: The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf (PTI) Asad Umer, PPP’s Raja Imran Asharaf, PJADP Nosheen Gul and Mian Aslam form Jamaat-e-Islami got the nomination papers.Rawalpindi: The contenders of various political parties received the nomination papers for the seven national and 15 provincial assembly seats. Afzal Khokhar from PPP, Raja Rashid from PTI got the papers for NA-57, AML head Sheikh Rashid and PTI’s Fayyaz Chohan got the nomination papers for NA 60 and 62 while Fayyaz Chohan also got the papers for PP-17.

Lahore: The obtaining of nomination papers kicked off in Lahore for the 14 national assembly and 30 provincial assembly seats. More than 170 candidates got the papers for NA seats while more than 250 got for provincial seats.PTI’s Hamid Khan, Dr Yasmeen Rashid, Mian Mehmoodur Rashid, PMKL-N’s Waheed Ilma Khan, Malik Riaz and Mian Noman obtained nomination papers.

Provincial election commissioner Zafar Iqbal paying duty as returning officer for 33 women and eight minorities seats.

Multan: The Obtaining of nomination papers was also got underway in Multan as former prime minister Yousaf Raza Gillani, PTI’s vice chairman Shah Mehmood Qureshi and other candidates obtained forms.

On the first day Shah Mehmood Qureshi, Yousaf Raza, Abdul Qadir and Musa Ali Gillani, Shehzad Maqbool Bhuta, Amir Saeed Ansari and others also obtained forms.

Peshawar: The obtaining of nomination papers for five national and 14 provincial assembly seats got started in  Peshawar as more than 80 contenders got the forms the first day.The papers will be received until June 8 while names of the candidates will be published on the same date.

The commission has constituted a central scrutiny cell for thorough scrutiny of nomination papers that will be conducted in June 14.

The cell will ensure thorough scrutiny of nomination papers under Article 62 and Article 63. The bench will collect information pertaining to dual nationality, non-payment of loans and income tax from competent authorities including National Database and Registration Authority, Federal Investigation Agency and Federal Board of Revenue.

Appeals against decisions of Returning Officers can be filed by June 19 whereas they will be decided by Appellate Tribunals by 26th of this month. Revised list of candidates will be published on June 27.Candidates can withdraw their candidature by June 28 after which final list of candidates will be published on the same day.

Election symbols will be allotted to the contesting candidates on 29th of this month.

The candidates contesting for the seat of National Assembly will pay Rs30,000 while for provincial assemblies, the fee is Rs20,000.

According to the Election Commission, same programme will be applicable to the seats reserved for Women and non-Muslims in the National Assembly and provincial assemblies of Punjab, Sindh, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and Balochistan.

Earlier, SC had suspended the Lahore High Court (LHC) verdict in case challenging the changes in nomination papers prepared by the parliament.“Elections 2018 will be held on time. ECP will be held responsible if there is any delay in elections”, remarked Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Justice Saqib Nisar.

LHC, in its verdict on Friday, had nullified the nomination papers to be submitted by the candidates for general polls 2018, stating they did not seek necessary information and declarations such as details on educational background and criminal record.
