Alastair Cook has stepped down as captain of England Test squad. He headed England in 59 Test matches after he was appointed captain in August 2012.
The 32–year-old Cook is England’s leading Test scorer with 11,057 runs. He led Britain to glory on home ground in 2013 and again in 2015 by winning the Ashes against Australia. He has also headed Britain win series in India and South Africa and series against Pakistan at home ground.
While the English Cricket Board has not yet announced his replacement Joe Root seems to be a favorite to be appointed as captain of England Test squad.
