Court Seeks Govt Response Over Placing Maryam, Safdar Names On ECL

LAHORE: A petitioner on Monday took back a petition from behalf of former premier Nawaz Sharif for removing his name in Lahore High Court as Supreme Court (SC) barred him to leave the country while the court heard the same petition for Maryam Nawaz and captain (retd) Safder.

The LHC bench headed by Justice Mamoon Rasheed Shiekh heard the petition seeking removal of Maryam Nawaz, capt (retd) Safdar and former premier Nawaz Sharif names from the exit control list. As the hearing started the petitioner Shahid Iqbal Chouhan counsel Amir Zahee withdrew the petition from behalf of Nawaz Sharif.

The petitioner viewed that SC had barred Nawaz Sharif from leaving the country so he took back his petition from Nawaz Sharif behalf.

For Maryam Nawaz, capt (retd) Safdar the petitioner contended that placing Maryam Nawaz and capt (retd) Safder on the ECL is a violation of basic human rights adding that the accused were cooperating with National Accountability Bureau (NAB) and requested the court to remove their names from the ECL.

The LHC bench after hearing the arguments has asked reply from the federal government.
