CT 17: NZ Win Toss, Opt to Bat First Against Australia

Birmingham (June 2, 2017): The second match of the ICC Champions Trophy 2017 features Trans-Tasman rivals Australia taking on New Zealand in Edgbaston, Birmingham. Steve Smith’s side have won four out of five encounters against New Zealand in the tournament and they will be determined to maintain their unbeaten run.

New Zealand captain Kane Williamson won the toss and decided to bat first against Australia. Australia’s head-to-head record against New Zealand in the ICC Champions Trophy. Played – 5, Won – 4, No-Result – 1.

This record will give Steve Smith’s team immense confidence ahead of their clash against New Zealand. Buoyed by their four-pronged pace attack in Mitchell Starc, James Pattinson, Pat Cummins and Josh Hazlewood, Australia are favorites.

However, New Zealand have punched above their weight in ICC tournaments and in the recent encounter between the two teams in the Chappell- Hadlee trophy, Kane Williamson’s side got the better of Australia.
