London (June 6, 2017): Australia and Bangladesh split points as downpour played spoilsport in the fifth match of the ICC Champions Trophy 2017, played at Kennington Oval.
Australia and Bangladesh received one point each as the match ruined by the downpour. Earlier, The rain had halted the Match between Bangladesh and Australia in Oval. Both Australia and Bangladesh need a win to stay alive in the tournament after not getting the best start. Australia’s first Match with New Zealand was also drawn and 1 point each was given to both.
One of Bangladesh’s worst ODI batting performances in recent years made situation really fragile for the team. Except Tamim and Shakib, who scored 95 and 29 respectively, none of them could performed well and the whole team could hardly gather 182 against the world’s best side Aussies.
Whereas Australia was playing on 83/1, when the rain stopped the match. Opener Warner was playing on 40 and Captain Smith on 22.
Steve Smith’s troops too had a disappointing start of the tournament against New Zealand. Though, the match was abandoned due to rain and the points were equally shared between the two sides, the two-time champions had little positives to take from the day.
The Aussies would now be looking to turn fortunes for themselves in this match against Bangladesh. Mitchell Starc tore into the Bangladesh lower order. When he was brought back into the attack, Bangladesh were 181/6. When he was done with them, they had lost the rest of their wickets for 182. Tamim Iqbal was the only man who performed for Bangladesh scoring 95 while Starc ended with four wickets to his name.
