CT 17: Kiwis Post Modest Total of 291 Runs for Aussies

Birmingham (June 2, 2017): Josh Hazlewood’s 6/52 helped Australia restrict New Zealand to 291 in the second game of the ICC Champions Trophy 2017 at Edgbaston. For the Kiwis, skipper Kane Williamson scored his 9th ODI century. Steve Smith’s side have never lost to New Zealand in the Champions Trophy.

New Zealand (291 all out) won the toss and chose to bat against Australia in the second match of the ICC Champions Trophy. Australia have never lost to Kane Williamson’s side in the Champions Trophy and Smith’s team will be determined to keep their winning run alive.

After winning the toss and opting to bat first, New Zealand went off to a very good start as Luke Ronchi (65) took the Australian bowlers to the cleaners early on.

The skipper, Kane Williamson then came to the party as he notched up his 9th ODI century with the Aussies struggling to get a breakthrough in the middle overs.

Ross Taylor chipped in with a well made 46 as New Zealand were looking good to post a big total. But Josh Hazlewood had other ideas as he kept pegging the Kiwis back after the departure of their captain and at the end returned with figures of 6 for 52.

New Zealand were bowled out for 291 in 45 overs.
